The Herriman Planning Commission approved a conditional use permit for a tenant at Axia Business Park to occupy roughly 80,000 square feet for warehousing, assembly and light manufacturing of aerospace components and firearm accessories. Staff emphasized the tenant will store certain crowd-control and nonlethal devices but will not manufacture explosive materials on-site.
Clint told the commission the tenant’s proposed operations include 3-D printing of firearm components, assembly and a fortified indoor “shoot box” used for on-site testing and that items such as tear gas and flashbangs would be stored in an indoor explosive magazine. He said the use and storage practices are “regulated by the ... ATF” and have been reviewed by the local fire marshal and building department.
Clint said the storage and distribution of those items from the site — not manufacturing of explosive materials — will be subject to ATF requirements and local fire and building codes. Commissioners asked about adjacent tenants and were told the adjacent space is currently vacant. The commission approved the conditional use with the five staff conditions included in the staff report and recorded a unanimous roll-call vote in favor.
The commission’s action requires the applicant to meet ATF provisions, the fire marshal’s conditions and local building-code requirements during permit review and operation. Staff emphasized those external regulatory reviews (ATF and the fire marshal) will govern specific handling, storage and security requirements for the materials described in the staff presentation.
