Meriwether County staff presented the recommended 2025–26 employee-benefits renewal and the board on May 5 approved a staff proposal that would keep Anthem as the county’s carrier and set a $30-per-month employee contribution toward premiums. Staff said Anthem’s negotiated renewal produced substantial cost increases: roughly $174,034 in monthly increases cited during the presentation, driving a material rise in annual premiums.
Staff provided scenarios showing county cost impacts under several employee-contribution levels and recommended the $30-per-month approach as a balance to limit county exposure while giving employees options to reduce premiums through a wellness program. The board authorized staff to proceed with Anthem and allowed the chair or vice chair to sign benefit-related paperwork to finalize vendor agreements.
