Commissioners table decision on admitting November Lane into county road system after drainage concerns

Meriwether County commissioners on May 5 heard a request from residents to admit November Lane into the county road system and agreed to table the matter while staff obtains a public-works assessment and cost estimate.
Planning staff said November Lane is currently classified as private; residents supplied a petition and offered to sign a quitclaim deed if the board decided to accept the road into the county system. Public works staff said the stretch is under 1,000 feet and likely could be brought to a maintainable standard by stripping grass and adding rock, but commissioners and residents raised drainage concerns.
Resident Cynthia Journey Dunlap told the board she has experienced repeated damage to her well and septic system that her contractor blamed on runoff from November Lane; she said she has paid more than $8,600 in repairs and installed a diversion herself. Public works staff responded that converting the drive to a county road without additional drainage work could intensify runoff toward downhill properties and recommended a detailed engineering assessment. The board directed staff to evaluate costs, retention/ditch options and quick-claim deed possibilities and tabled the request until the last meeting in June so staff can return with figures.
