Oklahoma County approves change order, temporarily relocates sheriff to speed Kraausch Center renovation

County staff said the renovation had been progressing well but that HVAC equipment deliveries will be delayed by several months. "Our Krausch renovation project was going very, very well. This is our first hiccup, really. The HVAC equipment, was, is going to be delayed by several months," said Stacy, a county staff member who presented the item.
The contractor proposed rearranging work and taking full control of the building if the sheriff would temporarily relocate to the Spencer substation. County staff said that change would shorten the overall project timeline by about four months and that the contractor would apply a $175,000 credit to the project and a corresponding FF&E (furnishings, fixtures and equipment) line item for the sheriff.
The sheriff told commissioners that his office is prepared to move staff and secured materials to other locations. "We're we're willing to make that happen," the sheriff said. He described steps already taken to secure basement records and evidence, saying, "We've we've taken steps to secure that, just to maintain a chain of custody. There's cameras down there. We've sealed all the the the cages that they're in, basically, so we'll know if the seals are broken."
County staff said public-facing sheriff operations from the Krausch Center had already been shifted temporarily to other locations, including Francis Tuttle and the Midwest City briefing station at 20 Ninth Street West, and that the Spencer substation would become an additional temporary location. Staff and the contractor also discussed powering down building systems during the work to reduce utility costs and free up funds for FF&E.
Commissioners moved and approved the item without recorded dissent. The meeting record shows the motion carried with all members present voting in favor.
Less-critical details discussed included the logistics of moving evidence and records and short-term workspace constraints at the Spencer site. Commissioners offered no additional public comments on the item and the meeting adjourned shortly after the vote.
