The Bradley County Finance Committee voted on and approved a series of budget amendments, taking up multiple departmental requests and several larger items that affect the county’s ARP and special‑fund balances.
Key approvals included school system amendments to recognize state and grant revenue and to move funds between accounts; the committee approved those motions by voice vote, recorded as passing 5‑0. The committee approved a reimbursement entry to reflect $811,000 coming into the budget for Hopewell Elementary from Fund 189; the county said the amount will be used to reconcile project billing and to inform the FY26 budget projection.
The committee approved a $50,000 amendment to use ARP interest funds to replace a major HVAC unit at the juvenile facility so the county could solicit bids and begin replacement work before summer. “This is ARP money… I was gonna budget it July 1, but I pulled it out and asked for an amendment so we can go ahead and bid and go ahead and replace the HVAC unit,” County Mayor Davis said; the motion passed 5‑0.
Finance staff also moved $94,822.25 from gambling‑tax receipts into Fund 189 to pay for concreting the new county parking lot adjacent to the justice center; that motion passed 5‑0. The committee approved multiple smaller adjustments across sheriff’s, fire, EMS, parks and other departments by grouped motions; most passed unanimously.
The board moved donations for the Miracle League — $16,066.30 — out of county undesignated funds and instructed the parks department to allow Miracle League of Bradley County to accept donations directly now that the group has 501(c)(3) status. Volunteer and departmental checks and insurance recoveries for equipment repairs and vehicles were also recorded and accepted.
One item failed: a request to pay the professional privilege tax for a general sessions judge. Commissioner Collins moved the amendment with a second; after discussion the committee voted no, recorded as opposed 5‑0. County legal and finance staff said they would confirm precedent and policy for paying personal taxes before similar requests arrive.
Most motions were made and seconded on the record and passed by voice vote with a 5‑0 tally; supporting documentation and check copies were filed with the meeting packet. The committee closed the amendments section and set the school budget hearing for May 30 at 11:30 a.m. in the commission room for further budget deliberations.
