The Board of Public Works and Safety on May 7 approved the Fire Department's request to surplus obsolete radio equipment and sell it to a Colorado company for $4,000.
Chief Miller told the board that after the county converted to 800 MHz radios in 2023, a quantity of older radios and chargers became unusable for department operations and are stored in a tote. He said the department has an offer from a Colorado company that specializes in radio equipment, and the proposed sale would yield $4,000 for the city.
A board member offered a motion to approve the surplus equipment request; the motion passed on a roll-call vote with Levi Jones, Jacob Palmaso and Chris Martin voting yes. Chief Miller said the sale proceeds would be returned to department funds and that staff can read the surplus list into the record if the board wants a full inventory.
The board did not require additional conditions. Staff will proceed with the sale and related surplus disposition procedures.
