The Board of Public Works and Safety on May 7 voted to table action on a demolition request for a condemned property at 417 Thirteenth Street until the May 14 meeting to allow the current owner an opportunity to appear and explain progress on repairs.
Rob from Community Development told the board the property had been condemned and approved for demolition previously, but the parcel has changed hands and the new owner says he needs more time to make repairs. Rob recommended tabling the item for at least one week so the owner could notify the board and speak for his property.
Board members agreed and voted to table the demolition request. The motion to table carried on a roll-call vote with Jacob Palmaso, Levi Jones and Chris Martin voting yes.
Rob said the new owner had purchased the property at a tax sale and informed staff he may have underestimated the work required. The board did not set conditions beyond the one-week tabling; staff will notify the owner of the May 14 appearance date.
No contractor was selected and no demolition was scheduled at the May 7 meeting. The board’s action leaves the property under the existing condemnation status while giving the owner an opportunity to present plans for repair or remediation at the next meeting.
