The Logansport Board of Public Works and Safety on May 7 awarded the Community Crossings bid to Central Paving and approved a contract that city staff said was about $50,000 under the project budget.
City staff said the council had already approved the funding and that construction can begin. The contract award and contract approval were taken in separate agenda steps; both motions passed on voice votes from the three board members present.
Ross, a city staff member who presented the item, told the board they needed to accept the bid before awarding the contract. He said the single bid received from Central Paving met the requirements. Board members then approved the award and the related contract.
Board members said the contract includes work at Spencer Park. During the meeting a staff member reported the Spencer Park repaving portion of the contract is $240,000, and that figure includes striping and concrete pads or curb stops.
The board recorded the vote by roll call: Jacob Palmaso, Chris Martin and Levi Jones voted yes on the award and again on the contract approval. Meeting minutes show the city’s council previously approved the funding for the project.
City staff said the bid arrived under budget and expressed enthusiasm to begin work. The board did not add conditions to the award; the contract was approved as presented.
The city did not provide a start date during the meeting. Staff said additional scheduling details and the construction timeline will be coordinated with Central Paving and announced later.
