Historical Society launches 'Revolution West Windsor' committee to mark U.S. 250th anniversary

Paul Ligetty, president of the Historical Society of West Windsor, told the council the township has formed a committee of community groups to coordinate programs and events marking the 250th anniversary of the United States’ founding.

"Revolution West Windsor…started a few weeks ago and will run to December 2026 or possibly beyond," Ligetty said, describing plans for parades, lectures, tours, art exhibits, concerts, festivals and interpretive history markers. He said the committee’s membership includes West Windsor Arts, the West Windsor Bicycle and Pedestrian Alliance, the community farmers market, volunteer fire companies, the Princeton chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a council liaison.

Ligetty noted local historical ties to the Revolutionary War — including property once owned by Declaration signer Richard Stockton and references to soldiers who lived in present‑day West Windsor — and encouraged residents to enter a logo contest (entries due June 1) and to volunteer. The committee plans to announce the logo contest winner at the township picnic on June 14.

The council placed a resolution endorsing Revolution New Jersey and recognizing Revolution West Windsor on the meeting’s consent agenda; the consent agenda listing shows Resolution 2025‑R115 endorsing the statewide commemoration and the local committee. The consent agenda, including the resolution, was approved by roll call (Gauguas: yes; Jeevers: yes; Boyce: yes; Whitfield: yes; Mandel: yes). Councilmembers thanked the historical society and community volunteers for organizing the initiative.

Ligetty said the effort aims not only to host events but to produce longer‑lasting legacies such as interpretive markers and other physical installations that document West Windsor’s Revolutionary‑era history.
