Sabrina Dezzo, senior human resources business partner for the City of Goodyear, told the City Council the water services department ran a pilot internship program in coordination with local high schools and Career and Technical Education (CTE) staff.
Dezzo said the pilot targeted high school seniors and used morning internship slots so students could still participate in after-school sports and activities. She said students toured water treatment facilities, attended safety meetings, wore uniforms and participated in a competitive interview process that selected six interns.
Dezzo reported that four of the six interns have been offered full‑time positions in water services and are expected to begin after graduation and a June orientation. She credited Water Superintendent Leonard Scheid for supporting recruitment, interviews and scheduling, and thanked CTE partners including Agua Fria School District Superintendent Mark Islas, Career and Technical Education Director Nate Showman and Work-Based Learning Specialist Marcy Baca for the district partnership.
Dezzo described the program goals as exposing students to technical career fields, building job‑ready skills and establishing a talent pipeline into the workforce. She asked the council to note the program’s success and continued partnership with local schools.
The council took no formal action; staff invited the interns forward for a photo.
