The commission received updates from the Board of Zoning Appeals and the Planning Department on recent permit and variance activity.
Commissioner Judy summarized BZA actions in March and April: a variance request for a wayfinding sign at 134 Woodgate Drive was denied; Kroger’s request for a larger wall sign at 1094 North Main Street was granted; and variances for a fence and a large aggregate pavement/staging area for NCO Properties LLC were granted with screening required.
Heather reported building‑permit activity is roughly on par with last year in total permit counts but noted 29 single‑family housing starts so far compared with 15 at the same point last year. She listed projects currently under plan review, including additions, a new veterinary clinic application at 811 South Dunbridge Road, the Bowling Green Senior Living project (66 units behind the Aldi), renovation work at Bowling Green High School, and other commercial and industrial applications. Staff also noted interim zoning actions taken by City Council for Durham Road and East Wooster and reminded the commission of a public hearing scheduled June 2 for properties on Newton Road.
Heather also highlighted historic preservation month activities and a planned BG Pedal Bike Tour and encouraged commissioner participation. The commission accepted the reports with no formal action.
