The Farm and Natural Lands Trust of York County presented a 57-acre property in Lower Windsor Township for preservation at the May 7 Board of Commissioners meeting and described its agricultural and community uses.
Sean Kenny, executive director of the Farm and Natural Lands Trust of York County, said the property fronts Manor Road, occupies much of a local valley and is adjacent to a 62-acre parcel preserved by the York County Agricultural Land Preservation Board. Kenny said about 75% of the property’s soils are classified as prime farmland by the state of Pennsylvania and the Natural Resources Conservation Service. He described the site as the location of an annual agritourism event called "Steamarama," which brings locomotives, tractor displays and family activities.
Kenny said the property is owned by a nonprofit and is volunteer-led; the organization’s members want to ensure that, if the group dissolves, the land will remain protected from potential development. The preservation item was placed on the agenda as item 12 and was adopted along with the rest of the board’s omnibus motion to approve items 1–21.
The presentation was informational; no new county funding, easement purchase price or legal instrument details were provided during the meeting.
