Council approved a $56,320 change order to extend riprap (cobblestone) protection along the Bridal Canyon drainage as part of England Acres Park Phase 3 and a separate $298,009.50 agreement to add perimeter trail lighting; both projects will be paid from park impact fees.
Tooele City Council approved a change order with Broken Arrow Construction for England Acres Park Phase 3 and separately approved an agreement with Black & McDonald to add trail and perimeter lighting around the park.
Parks and Recreation Director Darvin Cook said contractor bids for phase 3 came in lower than estimated and the city requested a price to place cobblestone riprap to protect the drainage (known locally as Devil’s Ditch or Bridal Canyon Ditch) from erosion. Cook said the change order covers cobble placement from Seventh Street/520 to 1000 North and protective riprap at both box culverts and the total presented in the packet was $56,320. He said the work is park-impact-fee funded.
Cook also brought a second item to install perimeter and center-path lighting. The agreement with Black & McDonald for that lighting was presented at $298,009.50 and would add lights around the park perimeter and along the center diagonal trail; Cook said the lighting will enhance safety for walkers and runners and will complete park amenities when the park opens later this year.
Both resolutions passed unanimously. Cook said the park is heavily used and that the riprap and lighting are timed to achieve final park completion.
