City staff outlines street program alternates; bids opening May 14

Alternate 3 is a police department parking lot resurfacing project of just under $50,000; Alternate 4 is paving for a gravel segment of Sedgwick Avenue at about $40,000. Alternate 5 would fund a pavement rejuvenator treatment on previously paved streets.
Why it matters: The alternate structure gives the city flexibility to select which additional projects to award based on bid prices and available budget. Staff said the bid package will include base bid plus alternates so council can evaluate an "à la carte" combination after bids are received.
Next steps and timing: Bids are scheduled to open May 14. Staff will prepare a bid matrix and a recommendation to present to council; the committee also noted the Columbus parking lot project is being rebid as part of the larger package.
Committee members asked for time to review handouts and alternates; staff confirmed they will provide the bid results and an engineered recommendation to help the committee and council decide which alternates to award.
