Eagle Scout candidate to restore Union Street Park features, install dog‑waste station

Maddox Braun, an Eagle Scout candidate, presented an Eagle Scout project to the Sunbury City Parks and Recreation Committee on May 7 to clean and restore areas of Union Street Park. "We will be cleaning up around Union Street Park creek, pulling sticks and dead trees from around the creek bed inside the creek as well as picking up trash," Braun said.

Braun told the committee his crew will pressure‑wash concrete tables and the Marco statue, install a dog‑waste station where needed, mulch beds near the arbor and around the Marco statue, repair or add wood to a small wooden bridge if necessary, and remove weeds and dead plants. "We will be also pressure washing the concrete tables and the Marco statue. And also planting flowers," he said.

Braun said 14 scouts had signed up to help and he planned to complete the work during a Saturday shift from about 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., weather permitting; he said they could return if the work was not finished that day. "Right now, I have 14 signed up to help, plus any adults or scouts who have aged up," Braun said. He told the committee he would buy the flowers and that a local group would provide a pressure washer, energy and water for the planned work.

Committee members thanked Braun for choosing Sunbury Park for the project and asked for before‑and‑after photographs. Braun said this was the final project he needed to complete Eagle rank. "This is the final thing I need to do in Eagle," he said. The committee did not take a vote; members confirmed they would coordinate logistics and staff support as needed.
