The North Penn School District board approved several consent and new business items during its May 6 work session, including district contracts and personnel actions, election of board officers for the next term and summer hires for the extended school care program.
Dr. Bauer recommended approval of contracts listed and on file with the business office; the board voted to approve the motion without recorded opposition. The board also approved routine personnel items listed in the packet.
Appointments and stipends: The board elected Joanna Chavez as secretary to the board of school directors for a four‑year term beginning July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2029, bonded per the School Code and with a stipend of $1,200 per year. The board also elected Tara BG Houser as a non‑member treasurer for a one‑year term beginning July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026, similarly bonded and with a $1,200 stipend; the superintendent explained that Houser is currently serving and will formally join district staff in June.
Summer hires and abstention: The board approved hiring Madison E. G. and Norman G. for extended school care and summer camp positions with hourly rates set at $16.51 (June 23–30, 2025) and $17.21 (July 1–Aug. 8, 2025) tied to the district pay schedule. The board recorded one abstention on that motion by a board member who stated the hires are her children; the district packet listed the hires as alumni returning to work the summer program.
Votes and process: Most motions were approved by voice vote with “aye” calls and no recorded opposition. Board members confirmed that nepotism/conflict rules are handled by listing relative hires as standalone agenda items per board policy. The superintendent noted that consent items and contracts are available on file in the business office.
Next steps: The approved contracts and personnel actions take effect per the dates in the personnel listings and the board appointments are effective July 1, 2025.
