Jean, the superintendent of RSU 05, gave the board an update on the district's strategic planning process, describing committee membership, consultant selection, and a timeline that centers on community input and a "portrait of a graduate."
Jean said the district selected Great School Partnership to help the committee draft a comprehensive five-year strategic plan and that the process will begin by “laying the foundation,” gathering community input through focus groups and a survey, drafting a portrait of a graduate, then developing mission, vision and objectives tied to progress indicators.
"A portrait of a graduate is really our North Star for our process and it's gonna articulate how we're gonna make this vision, our values, a reality over the next 5 years," Jean said. She explained that the portrait will guide objectives, strategies and action steps and that the strategic planning committee will analyze existing achievement and demographic data together with new focus-group and survey data.
Jean described the committee as including parents, community members from each town, a student representative, two teachers, two board members, two administrators, a director of instructional support, the assistant superintendent and the superintendent. The district began the work with consultant proposals in November and interviewed two of three consultant groups before selecting Great School Partnership.
Officials said some stakeholder outreach will be postponed until early fall to avoid rushing the process during graduation and budget season. Jean said student conversations, community focus groups and a survey are planned, and that the committee will code and analyze emerging themes before drafting the portrait of a graduate. She also said the board will receive regular progress-monitoring updates once objectives are set.
Jean said the district aims to have a finalized plan by the June 2026 board meeting, but she added that if the committee needs more time, the district could postpone final approval to the fall. The update provided the board with the committee's timeline and process; no formal vote on the strategic plan occurred at this meeting.
