The Palatka Planning Board voted unanimously to amend the future land use map and rezone a 0.16-acre city-owned parcel from Residential High (RH) / R3 to Public Buildings and Grounds (PBG) to match the adjoining Westview Cemetery.
Staff described the request as corrective: the small parcel abuts the cemetery and was left with a different future land use/zoning designation in the mapping record. Staff said the parcel is owned by the city and that aligning the parcel with the cemetery’s PBG designation corrects a mapping inconsistency.
Board members asked why this parcel was treated differently than a prior parcel that the board rezoned to conservation; staff replied the cemetery parcel is properly PBG because it is part of the cemetery property and not intended for conservation classification.
A motion to amend the future land use designation from City of Palatka Residential High (RH) to City of Palatka Public Buildings and Grounds (PBG) carried unanimously; the board then approved the rezoning from Multifamily Residential (R3) to Public Buildings and Grounds (PBG1) by unanimous vote.
Staff said the parcel is vacant, abuts Westview Cemetery and that the amendment is corrective to make the city’s maps consistent.
