The Legislative Council approved a $228,084 fiscal year 2026 computer hardware refresh to replace aging technology across the legislature.
Senator Stevens moved the expenditure; Chief Information Officer Shay Wilson told the council the higher cost this year reflects international tariffs and the need to replace a PC model that will not be capable of running Windows 11 after this fall. Wilson said the request this year includes the Ombudsman, the Office of Victims’ Rights, and Legislative Finance, offices that have been excluded in prior annual refresh requests. The replacement equipment list and quantities were reviewed by the IT subcommittee, which recommended council approval.
Wilson said the refresh is to be paid from existing capital funds; without the expenditure IT staff said they would be unable to replace equipment as it fails, which would reduce productivity. The motion passed 11-0 on a roll-call vote; staff will proceed with procurement and scheduling of replacements.
