Shay Wilson, chief information officer for the Legislative Affairs Agency, told the Legislative Council that the legislature will migrate its phone service to Microsoft Teams and estimated connectivity expenses at about $94,000 annually.
Wilson said the legislature operates its own Microsoft environment and cannot use Executive Branch Office of Information Technology resources for telephone service. He told the council the agency identified a preferred provider and plans to convert Juneau this fall, with Anchorage and Fairbanks to follow in 2026. Because the utility is excluded under procurement procedures "O2O," staff said no Legislative Council action is required.
Wilson described the migration as part of a broader multi-year project begun by the Executive Branch and said the Legislative Affairs Agency will manage the separate legislative implementation. Council members asked no additional questions about the schedule or vendor selection during the meeting.
