La Verne parks department schedules 'Big Wave' water day June 2, partners with fire department for events

David McGowan, speaking for La Verne's Parks and Recreation department, outlined the department's April activity and announced several community events for June and beyond.
McGowan said the new "Big Wave" family event will be Monday, June 2, from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at the back of Veterans Memorial Park at Pavilion B, 115 Floyd Mayfield; the fire department will connect to a hydrant and operate a water feature for children at that event. He described it as a supervised water play opportunity and noted adult supervision is required.
The department will also offer a free "Back to Basics" auto maintenance workshop at the multipurpose building on June 6, limited to 25 participants aged 15 and older; that event is a partnership with Public Works.
McGowan said the dog park recently received a recurring donation from Good Samaritan Animal Hospital and Dr. Isaac, who he described as a consistent community supporter. He thanked the hospital and noted the parks team continues to field help-desk requests and plan seasonal events.
No formal board action was required; the announcements were presented during departmental reports so residents can register or attend the events.
McGowan said event details and registration information will be posted by the department and coordinated with the fire department and Public Works as appropriate.
