Commission staff asked the Franklin Community Arts Commission to help promote a regional creative-economy survey being run by a Central Indiana regional development group and consultants, saying outreach so far has returned only about 100 responses from across Central Indiana.
A commission presenter described the effort as part of a larger Creative Convergence initiative and asked commissioners to forward the survey to artists, designers, potters, dancers, business owners and others who “touch the creative economy.” The presenter said the Central Indiana group is working to build a formal creative-economy network and that regional projects tied to grant funding could follow if officials can demonstrate local participation.
The presenter referenced a regional group that she described as the Central Indiana Regional Development Authority and said the mayor sits on that board. She also referenced earlier Lilly Foundation funding for regional art projects and thanked a commissioner who spoke to the visiting subcommittee when they toured Franklin.
Staff asked commissioners to share the survey with local contacts to improve response rates so consultants can better map the creative-economy assets and needs in the Central Indiana area. No formal vote took place; the commission agreed to circulate the survey.
