Commissioners reported that the Art Craft Alley public-art installation is complete and nearly 200 kites were hung as part of the project, which also includes evening lighting.
Dana (Community Arts Commission) told the commission that the kites include vertical tails for visual interest and that black lights are working to create a night display. “We did complete the Art Craft Alley hanging nearly 200 kites. Super excited about that,” Dana said.
Dana said the Indiana Arts Commission has taken notice. The commission’s presenter said a representative from the Indiana Arts Commission asked for photos and has posted a short item on LinkedIn; the commission was told that Franklin was among the first communities in the state to complete a Creative Convergence grant project.
Commission staff also said that brackets for additional banners — ordered through Spotlight Strategies — finally arrived and will be delivered to Jason at the street department this week or next, enabling more banners to be installed before the Ethos event.
Commissioners discussed an intersection arch project that remains unscheduled; staff said weather has delayed outdoor work and the contractor is looking at July or early August for that installation.
No formal action was required for the report; commissioners thanked staff and volunteers and encouraged documentation and photo sharing for the Indiana Arts Commission outreach.
