Board approves $68,175 contract for county childcare feasibility study to identify local options

The Board of Supervisors on May 6 approved a $68,175 contract with Integrated Human Services Group of California (IHSG) to complete a childcare feasibility study for Mariposa County.
Christina Cahill, Health and Human Services Agency director, told the board the county had received a grant about two years earlier but staff turnover delayed project start. IHSG will lead focus groups with parents, childcare providers and county employees, survey community demand, and recommend program and workforce development options to expand childcare supply. The work will assess barriers such as licensing, training and facility costs and examine economic benefits including workforce retention.
Staff said the grant is time‑limited and they will request a short extension from the funder to complete the study; results should be available in the fall if extended. IHSG includes a local consultant familiar to the county, which staff said will help tailor recommendations to Mariposa’s rural context. The board approved the agreement unanimously and asked staff to return with results and implementation options when the study is complete.
