Dahl Memorial Clinic executive committee approves short-term contract for dental assistant

The Dahl Memorial Clinic Executive Committee approved a short-term, month-to-month contract to cover dental assistant Hannah Filan so she can be paid while working in Skagway.

The contract, described by Director Wahl as a recurring month-to-month agreement limited to $5,000 in 30 days, covers Filan’s current work through mid-May. Director Wahl told the committee, “This contract, the date on this contract ran out, prior to the dental assistant's arrival, and it needs to be in place for her to be paid.”

The committee discussed staffing plans and the contract’s duration. Bob Dietrich, chair of the Dahl Memorial Clinic board of directors, asked whether Filan would return during the summer and whether a new contract would be necessary. Director Wahl said Filan “is not coming back in May” and “she's not coming back in June,” and that if the clinic needed her beyond that, staff would prepare a year-long contract rather than continue month-to-month arrangements.

The committee voted by voice with no objections recorded; the chair announced, “Seeing none, the contract is approved by the executive committee.” The approval allows Filan to be paid for work already underway.

The committee noted the short-term arrangement is intended to fill coverage until the on-site dental assistant completes credentialing. Director Wahl summarized: the month-to-month contract is “basically, a fill as needed until our current dental assistant who is on-site gets certified, signed off on basically in credentialing for the work that he does.”

The committee did not specify a formal tally of votes; the approval was recorded as passing without objection.

The committee moved on to other business after approving the contract.
