County staff said JFMC Facilities Corporation’s changes increase floor area and impervious surface below the minor‑modification thresholds in the Unified Development Ordinance and that the site met site‑capacity review requirements. Tom Schiafalo, principal planner and project manager, presented the application and noted the property is adjacent to a golf course and wetlands and is not within the Route 53 corridor.
Committee members voiced support. Member Kanishnik said Sunrise Day Camp provides valuable youth services and “I am enthusiastically voting yes.” The committee approved the modification by voice vote.
Staff told the committee the proposed additions are phase‑2 elements of an ongoing campus plan and are “well integrated into the campus” and unlikely to create new impacts for neighbors. The applicant submitted a site‑plan application for the mini‑golf component in anticipation of the committee’s approval.
The approval allows the camp to proceed with further permitting and site improvements consistent with county site‑capacity and PUD conditions. Staff will continue to process the applicant’s permit applications under the standards described during the presentation.
