"I am pleased to announce that the FDA funding has resumed, and we were selected to participate in the 2025, 2026 grant year. However, due to the federal constraints that's going on right now, the funding has been cut by 50%," Tarsha said.
Tarsha said the department is compiling requested sewage and water information for an IDPH review of the 2024 operating year and that IDPH staff are expected on site in late May to inspect physical files. On food safety training, Tarsha said the quarterly food-manager class on April 10 saw 16 registrants, 14 attendees and 12 passing—a significant increase from the previous quarter, which the presenter attributed to better advertisement on the agency website.
Board members asked whether the department conducts septic inspections for residential real-estate transactions; Tarsha confirmed the department performs such inspections and noted residents may contract independent firms or use the department's services. When asked about fees, Tarsha said she would provide the specific charge after the meeting.
