Santa Fe committee briefed on Guadalupe Street construction meeting, business workshops and age-friendly sessions

At its May 7 Quality of Life Committee meeting, staff provided a series of upcoming community engagement events for businesses, cultural organizations and residents, and committee members highlighted age-friendly outreach sessions.
Staff said the Office of Economic Development, in partnership with other city divisions and construction contractor GM Emulsion, will host a Guadalupe Street construction briefing for area businesses on Tuesday, May 13 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The briefing is intended to address road-construction impacts and provide project timelines for upcoming phases.
Staff also announced that the Santa Fe Business Incubator will hold an online workshop, "Business 101: Starting and Doing Business in Santa Fe," on May 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The workshop will walk participants through steps to obtain a business license in Santa Fe and will highlight city and community resources. Other cultural events noted included a community-gallery exhibition opening with Radius Books timed to the Santa Fe International Literary Festival and panel events featuring Santa Fe Poet Laureate Tommy Archuleta, Victoria Chang and Dana Levin.
Staff described the first of five UNESCO-oriented community gatherings on Saturday, May 10 at the South Bridal Library, beginning with a drum-making talk and demonstration by the Herrera family of Cochiti Pueblo, with subsequent Saturdays featuring tin workers, jewelry makers and other heritage artists. The presentation also noted concurrent Native Fashion Week events produced by "Swaya" and another Native Fashion Week event, plus the Native Treasure Indian Arts Festival and other May cultural programming.
Councilor Travis briefed the committee on the city—s age-friendly outreach effort, saying Director Sanchez Tucker has organized workshops and listening sessions. Travis said workshops have been held and that future listening sessions will include Spanish interpretation; staff scheduled multiple workshops on Mondays and listening sessions beginning the week of May 20.
Councilor Castro added a community notice that May 10 is Love Your Watershed Day at De Vargas Park. The committee adjourned at approximately 5:17 p.m.
