Councilman Neal reported from the Dallas Regional Mobility Coalition that Texas Department of Transportation spending has increased and that the region is planning large investments in coming decades. "TxDOT spends, their spending has gone up from about 11,200,000,000.0 in 2022 to 13,700,000,000.0 in in 2024," Neal said, adding an estimate he relayed that statewide spending could reach about $200,000,000,000 by 2050. Neal said TxDOT representatives discussed projects in the area and noted a grade-separation grant for railroad crossings that local jurisdictions might pursue.
Neal also reported that the Dallas Area Rapid Transit agency has begun test runs of the Silver Line, calling that "a big step moving forward for them." He said he continues to receive monthly updates from project staff on local projects, including the I‑30 phase 2 project, which he said is running about six months longer than anticipated.
Other council members reported on community events. Councilwoman Bennett summarized takeaways from an American Planning Association online conference on topics such as equity impacts of retail fees and small-business recovery, and Councilman Reid noted attendance at a third‑anniversary celebration for Red Sticks at Mustang Station. Neal thanked city departments for their roles at a recent Fish and Fun event and a spring festival at Saint Andrew’s Church where police, fire and animal services had a presence.
The liaison reports were informational; no council action was taken during the study session. Council members asked staff to monitor TxDOT project progress and to notify city management if there are grade‑separation opportunities that warrant application for grant funding.
