Youth sports coordinator reports 2,004 registrations and $177,000 net revenue in first full year

Brian Shoresman, the city’s recreation coordinator for youth sports, presented his first-year report to the Lacey Parks, Culture and Recreation Board on May 7.
Shoresman reported the department ran 241 programs last year, including basketball and baseball/T-ball leagues with four divisions each, and recorded about 2,004 registrations across programs. He said net revenue for youth programs was just over $177,000. New or expanded offerings included a sixth-grade division in basketball, a Sports Sprouts class for ages 3–6, beginner golf held in a gym using temporary pads, and partnerships for summer camps including the Olympia Area Rowing Club and Black Hills Gymnastics.
Shoresman highlighted the department’s contract partnerships — Skyhawks Sports programming, archery tag, floorball, cross country led by a former All-American instructor, gymnastics, tennis and taekwondo — and said summer camp registration was filling quickly. He said staff continues to seek new programing such as disc golf and expanded pickleball offerings based on public requests.
Board members praised Shoresman’s scheduling work coordinating city and school fields and communications with maintenance staff. The presentation was informational; no formal action was taken.
