Select board hears progress report on audits, QuickBooks-to-MRI conversion

Greenland officials briefed the select board April 20 on the town’s audit status and a multi-year effort to migrate municipal accounting from QuickBooks to the MRI finance system.
The board was told the 2023 audit work has been completed, though the final signed documents were not yet in hand. Staff said the 2024 audit walkthrough is scheduled for the week of May 12, with the physical fieldwork likely later in June or July. "The 2023 audit is complete — I just don't have the final signature yet," a town official reported.
Town staff described progress on transferring fiscal year 2023 and 2024 records into MRI and said QuickBooks files for 2023–24 were forwarded for conversion. Staff and budget committee members are coordinating to confirm the chart of accounts and to resolve outstanding reconciliation items tied to prior staffing changes. Officials also stressed that some audit findings and recommendations will be issued in a standard audit findings letter and that those recommendations are expected to guide policy changes.
The board discussed how incomplete audit documentation can limit borrowing and bond options, and members asked staff to continue tracking outstanding items. A select board member noted that work to reconcile a former employee’s accounts was complete and that piece of the 2024 audit was already recorded.
Ending: Town staff said they would continue to update the board as MRI conversion and the 2024 audit proceed; no formal board vote was taken on the audit update.
