University Heights City Council accepted a 2025 energy-community grant on Monday and asked staff to identify potential projects for the funds before the city commits the dollars to a specific upgrade.
City staff said the grant is a 2025 award from a program named in the staff report; the presenter described it as a "$2,221 reward from Notecraft, for 2025," and said similar grant funds in prior years had been used for bike racks and LED lighting. The council approved acceptance of the grant so that the city can obligate the money and then return with project proposals.
Officials said typical eligible projects include energy-efficiency upgrades for city facilities, LED lighting retrofits, electric‑vehicle purchases or leases, or rebate programs for electric lawn equipment. Staff noted that the city has limited new municipal facilities, which narrows immediate project options, and suggested staff would return with a recommendation to allocate the funds.
Council members asked that any proposed projects be presented in committee or at a council meeting for public review before the funds are spent.
The council motion accepted the grant and authorized staff to proceed with planning and to bring candidate projects back to the council for approval.
