At the May 6 Kent City Council meeting the council approved reappointments to the Kent Bicycle Advisory Board and accepted a new appointment as part of the consent calendar. The reappointments were Connie Sulp, Baron Yu, Wendy Graves and Tom Bader; Erin Dent was appointed as a returning member.
Mayor Dana Ralph read a proclamation designating May 2025 as "Bike Everywhere Month" in Kent, citing the Interurban Trail, Green River Trail and Seuss Creek Trail as well-used facilities and encouraging residents to support bicycling as a transportation option.
Wendy Graves, chair of the Kent Bicycle Advisory Board, told the council the board is holding its fourth annual bicycle rodeo on May 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the YMCA parking lot. "We are going to have some bikes for people that show up without bikes to borrow," Graves said, and she noted youth-focused partner Bike Rescue for Youth will be present to match kids with used bikes.
The appointments were approved as part of the consent calendar earlier in the meeting; the consent calendar passed by voice vote 6-0.
Why it matters: Reconstituted advisory board membership and the proclamation reflect continued city support for active transportation and community events that promote bicycle safety and access.
Next steps: Parks and the Bicycle Advisory Board will move ahead with the bike rodeo and the board will continue advisory work on bicycle-related projects and events.
