Kent awards Kent Valley Loop Trail furnishings contract; King County grant to offset most costs

The Kent City Council on May 6 approved a contract award to Key Peninsula Construction to supply and install site furnishings for the Kent Valley Loop Trail, funding and bid details presented by Parks Planning and Development Manager Kyle Woods.
"This project supports all three goals by installing and upgrading trail furnishing such as bollards, benches, emergency markers, trash receptacles, wayfinding signage, trail counters, and kiosks," Woods said during his presentation.
Woods told the council the project implements portions of the Kent Valley Loop Trail Master Plan adopted in 2014. Staff received three bids; the low bid from Key Peninsula Construction was $234,544.17 and staff reviewed and found the contractor—s references acceptable. Parks staff secured a $206,000 trail enhancements grant from King County to substantially offset project costs.
The council approved the award on a voice vote. The motion passed 6-0.
Why it matters: The furnishings are intended to improve trail safety, wayfinding and user comfort along a multi-use regional trail corridor that the city has identified as a long-term priority.
Next steps: Staff will finalize contract terms acceptable to the city attorney and parks director and proceed with procurement and installation under the approved contract.
