Statesboro renews downtown redevelopment incentives through 2025 resolution

The Statesboro Mayor and Council voted May 6 to renew the city’s downtown incentives program by adopting Resolution 2025‑O8, extending incentives that encourage redevelopment and new businesses in the downtown area.
Miss Pitt, who presented the item, said the city has offered incentives for several years and that the prior set of incentives, renewed in 2022, was due to expire in June. The renewal keeps incentives in place while the city continues efforts to attract businesses and redevelopment to downtown.
Presentation to council listed typical incentives the program provides: partial tap‑fee waivers (the presenter mentioned a $25,000 cap for certain tap fees), possible waiver of some permit fees and, in some cases, waiving alcohol license fees for qualifying downtown businesses. City staff said those measures help reduce startup costs and encourage investment in the downtown corridor.
Council thanked the downtown and economic development staff for work on the program. There were no substantive revisions requested during the meeting. The council voted to approve the resolution to renew the downtown incentive program.
City staff said the renewal is intended to continue the city’s efforts to make downtown redevelopment more attractive to prospective businesses and property owners.
