The Onslow County Board of Education voted to approve the local current expense fund and the capital outlay fund budget proposals for fiscal year 2026 as presented.
Chief Financial Officer Michael Holloman told the board the budgets were developed with input from schools, departments and the board, presented at a budget workshop on April 29 and put before the public at a hearing on May 6. Holloman said the packet reflected adjustments requested to support additional SRO contracted services.
Board Chair Garvey called for a motion; a board member moved and another seconded. The board voted in favor by voice and the chair declared the motion carried. Upon approval, Holloman said the budget request will be forwarded to the Board of County Commissioners; remaining fund budgets will be submitted later to the Board of Education for formal adoption.
The board did not provide a roll-call vote in the meeting transcript and no dollar totals for the proposed budgets were stated on the record. The board packet referenced prior staff briefings and the April 29 workshop where details were discussed.
The vote formalizes the district's FY2026 spending proposals for the local current expense and capital outlay funds and begins the county-level review required before final adoption by the Board of Education.
