Codington County declares bridge decking, culverts surplus and to donate to Watertown Fire Department; two trucks to be sold

Codington County commissioners on Tuesday declared used highway materials — including damaged bridge decking and culvert sections — surplus and approved donating them to the Watertown Fire Department for training exercises. The commission also approved declaring two older highway dump trucks surplus and listing them for sale on Purple Wave.
Highway staff described the donated materials as two sections of 8-foot-by-7-foot culverts, six pieces of 24-inch culvert sections of various lengths, and two pieces of 60-foot bridge decking. The fire department will be responsible for transporting and demolishing the materials for training scenarios.
Separately, staff said the two trucks are 2010 International 7600 series work-star dump trucks (unit identifiers TR29 and TR31). Those trucks will be surplused and offered for sale via the Purple Wave online auction platform.
Commissioner Gable moved to declare the items surplus and sell/transfer them as described; the motion was seconded and carried on a voice vote.
County staff noted the donations will be coordinated with the Watertown Fire Department and that the department will handle removal and any on-site demolition.
