Soil and Water coordinator reports tree giveaway, native plant sale and inspection work

Matt Simpson, stormwater coordinator for the Dearborn County Soil and Water Conservation District, gave the commissioners a program update on May 6 describing recent outreach and routine field work.
"I'm the stormwater coordinator, for Dearborn County Stormwater Conservation District," Simpson said, noting he has been reviewing stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPPs), responding to adjacent-property complaints and performing construction inspections.
Simpson told the board the district celebrated Arbor Day by distributing 560 trees to county residents and employees and that a recent native-plant sale sold about 600 plants. He also said he will attend the Indiana MS4 annual meeting and an Indiana Department of Environmental Management workshop on construction inspections the following week.
Simpson introduced new board leadership: Chris Powell as board chairman and Dan Kemper as a new supervisor. He thanked county staff (naming Sue) for website assistance that enabled the district's online updates.
Commissioners offered the district their thanks for outreach and for sharing social-media posts related to anti-litter and cleanup events. The board did not take formal action on the update; this was an informational briefing.
