Commissioners authorize repairs to Yes Home after storm damage; tenant relocation and insurance coordination planned

Dearborn County commissioners on May 6 authorized repairs to the Yes Home property after a recent storm damaged part of the roof and triggered two sprinkler-head failures that caused interior water damage.
The county leases the building to the Yes Home. Under the lease the tenant must get written permission for repairs and is responsible for a $5,000 insurance deductible; the board approved that authorization.
A Yes Home representative told commissioners the organization has been working with its insurer, Astra Insurance Group, and has received two repair estimates. The representative said the building's listing on the National Register of Historic Places means some repair specifications (for instance, matching hewn beams) will need to be confirmed with the insurer and any selected contractor.
"We received so many messages of 'what do you guys need, what can you do,'" the Yes Home representative said, thanking county staff and emergency responders for quick assistance after the storm. The group shut off the affected sprinkler line and relocated the boys' wing temporarily while water mitigation and repairs proceed.
Bill Shelton was identified in the meeting as a county resource who has been informed and is available to help ensure historic-preservation requirements are met during repairs.
Commissioners approved authorization for repairs and recorded that the Yes Home will cover the $5,000 deductible while insurance processes the claim and selects a contractor. The county and the Yes Home will follow up with the assigned insurance adjuster to secure a timeline for the work.
Less-critical procedural notes: the commissioners urged the Yes Home to stay persistent with the insurer because claims can be delayed; the board expressed appreciation for the quick response by emergency services and county staff.
