At its May 5 meeting the Town of Hampden Select Board approved an entertainment license for Parks and Recreation’s June 19 “Rock into Summer” event and waived the application fee, with the license contingent on approval from the Regional School District.
The board also endorsed Parks and Recreation’s application to the school committee for a one‑day beer‑and‑wine permit and discussed safety measures proposed by the applicant, John Sullivan. The applicant described a fenced, ID‑checked 21+ “beer garden,” TIPS‑certified servers, portion controls limited to beer and wine, and an on‑site security plan; the board agreed on an 8:30 p.m. last‑call time and directed staff to seek school‑district approval before issuing the final permit.
The board approved multiple one‑day liquor license requests for senior center events and Veterans of Foreign Wars fundraisers; motions were made and passed by voice vote with no recorded dissent.
The Select Board completed its annual review of executive session minutes. Members voted to hold several minutes from 2024–25 (personnel or active litigation items) from release and to release the other executive session minutes up to the current point in 2025.
In other formal actions the board authorized Fabry Consultants to continue landfill testing under the town’s annual contract, with the meeting reporting an estimated annual cost of $37,800.
All the licensing and contract actions were approved by voice vote at the meeting; the board said it will submit its endorsement to the school committee and expects the final alcohol permit decision to return to the board after the school’s review.
