The Laramie Regional Airport asked Albany County for a $205,000 contribution toward its FY26 operating budget, citing an operating shortfall and plans to grow revenue streams to close the gap.
Amy, the airport director, presented a draft budget that projects roughly $3.01 million in anticipated income and $3.26 million in expenditures, producing an estimated shortfall of about $248,800. The airport requested the county match a $205,000 contribution from the city of Laramie as required by their joint-powers sponsor arrangement for grants.
To address the deficit, airport staff proposed increasing projected fuel revenue and looking for other revenue sources, including development of plumbed acreage for hangars or other facilities and possible grant-backed projects. The director noted recent capital projects completed or underway, including LED airfield lighting, a new fire truck and terminal revenue changes that have already increased recurring airport income.
The airport highlighted economic-impact data from a 2020 Wyoming Department of Transportation study (a new study is underway) estimating the airport brings roughly $37.3 million in direct and indirect economic activity and about $1.4 million in tax revenue to the county. The airport director said the airport will return to the board with regular updates and that she would present the final fee schedule to the city in May.
Commissioners asked detailed questions about compliance costs, complaint processing and airline schedules; the director said she will work with county budget staff and return with more details. The board indicated it will consider the county contribution during its budget process; no appropriation vote was recorded at this meeting.
