The Pembroke Pines City Commission unanimously approved May 7 an amendment to the tri‑party agreement for the Pembroke Pines Mobility Hub project that adds $247,752 in Federal Transit Administration (FTA) grant funds to install pedestrian lighting.
The amendment (Resolution No. 2025‑R14) updates the agreement among the city, Metro Transportation Engineering and Construction Cooperative (MTECC), and the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (BMPO) to add funding and allow construction of pedestrian lighting at the Mobility Hub. City staff said the hub project has evolved from an earlier parking‑garage concept into a broader mobility hub with multiuse paths, new bus shelters along Pines Boulevard, bike lanes and mobility stops near City Center and Memorial Park.
Planning director Mike Stamas summarized the project’s history and objectives, saying, “This mobility hub project has been in the works for many, many years,” and described connectivity improvements that will link Washington Street multiuse paths with Raintree and other routes. Stamas and staff confirmed the total grant package for the overall mobility project is approximately $2.7 million; the amendment allocates the newly awarded $247,752 specifically to pedestrian lighting construction.
Commissioners praised the project as a walkability and transit improvement and urged the city to highlight the project in future communications. The motion to adopt the resolution was moved by Commissioner Goode, seconded by Commissioner Rodriguez, and passed unanimously.
