Budget Director Hasler told commissioners on May 7 that the Butte‑Silver Bow Animal Shelter had been named a beneficiary on a recently deceased community member’s life insurance policy and that the policy required an authorized signature to claim proceeds.
Hasler said the funds are not restricted but are specifically named for the animal shelter and may be used for operations or remodeling. She added that another similar policy naming the shelter may come forward in a separate communication.
Commissioner Shea moved to concur and place the communication on file so the chief executive could sign the death-benefit claim form; the council voted 10–0. Hasler said the funds will be used for shelter needs as directed by staff.
