Dalton police and fire report monthly activity; department programs and community events announced

The Dalton Police Department reported 1,543 calls for service in April and provided a breakdown of enforcement and events at the May 7 board meeting. Officer Terry Young summarized activity, ticketing and upcoming community engagements.
Young reported 669 parking tickets totaling roughly $11,000 and cited state tickets and red-light camera citations; he listed arrests and calls for serious crimes for April as reported to the board. He also reminded residents of a May 16 fundraiser “Cop on the Rooftop” to raise money for the Special Olympics and a community car show planned for July.
The Dalton Fire Department reported roughly 2,198 calls to date and said most recent activity has been concentrated in EMS and lift-assist responses. Fire officials noted one recent residential fire remains under investigation and thanked neighboring departments for mutual-aid support.
Fire leaders also described an ongoing smoke-detector program: the department has installed more than 30 free smoke detectors to date in Dalton homes in partnership with the American Red Cross and invited residents to request installations by phone. Officials said they are planning an October open house and exploring a youth academy or weekend program to engage children with public-safety careers.
Both police and fire officials said they will resume community meetings and outreach; the departments requested that their written reports be filed with the clerk prior to meetings for distribution to trustees.
