Commissioners begin process to add Homestake Meadows 2 homeowners association to county solid‑waste collection

On May 7 the council authorized staff to begin the legal process to add the Homestake Meadows 2 homeowners association to the Butte‑Silver Bow solid-waste collection system.
Fred Clark, representing Homestake Meadows 2, requested the addition during the meeting. Director of Public Works Mark Neri said the request had already been discussed with Public Works staff and the county’s special improvement district analyst. He explained that the process requires a resolution of intent, public hearings and notices to homeowners, and that timelines are tight if the council wants the change reflected on the next tax roll.
Neri and budget director Hasler said the rate difference is meaningful: the private contractor (Magree) currently charges residents about $32 per month, while customers on the Butte‑Silver Bow system pay approximately $106.50 per year on the county roll. The county’s process will require notification to homeowners and formal petitions or hearings under the applicable statutes prior to changing billing.
Commissioner Shea moved to concur and place the request on file; the council voted 10–0. The public works office will proceed with the statutory steps to put the matter on the tax roll if homeowners and legal notices meet statutory requirements.
