The Laconia School Board unanimously accepted a $2,517.98 donation from the community group Blacktop Saints on May 6. Administrators said the group is disbanding and requested the district use the funds to support student needs across schools, including returning students'sport participation, clothing, backpacks, and possibly to offset school-lunch debt.
District staff told the board Blacktop Saints had long supported local students through holiday assistance and a scholarship at the high school. The group contacted Elm Street School's social worker, Tori Chase, to coordinate the donation and asked that school social workers determine specific student needs.
The board approved acceptance of the donation 5-0 and directed staff to work with school social workers to allocate the funds to support students districtwide.
