School board approves four teacher nominations, including special-education hire

The Laconia School Board voted 5-0 on May 6 to approve four teacher nominations submitted by district administrators.
The board approved the nomination of Rachel Soney to the Woodland Heights special-education position; administrators said Soney holds a master's degree in curriculum and instruction and has more than 20 years of teaching experience at the elementary and middle levels. The board also approved Ashley Hart for Woodland Heights first grade; the district said Hart is completing her degree at Plymouth State University and performed her internship at Woodland Heights.
The board approved Brian Blithomf as the middle-school general-music teacher; administrators noted he is finishing his second year of teaching, completed part of his student teaching in Laconia in 2023, and said he has family ties in the district. Jennifer Thomas was approved as the sixth-grade math and science teacher; the district reported she holds certifications in technology and engineering, is a digital-learning specialist, and brings about 17 years of teaching experience.
All four hires were approved by unanimous vote. Administrators said the schools will proceed with onboarding and that several of the new teachers are local residents excited to return to Laconia classrooms.
