Geneva council approves appointments, proclaims May observances and $2.02 million in bills; rejects police generator bids

The Geneva City Council unanimously approved mayoral appointments, two May proclamations and municipal bills totaling $2,017,540.82, and it voted to reject two bids for a police department generator with plans to rebid the project.

Council members voted 10-0 to confirm the mayor’s appointments to city posts and to the city attorney position. The council also approved proclamations designating May as Mental Health Awareness Month and May as ALS Awareness Month.

The council approved the omnibus agenda and then adopted a motion to pay municipal bills totaling $2,017,540.82. Councilmember Bowering made the motion to pay the bills; the roll call returned 10 affirmative votes, 0 nays and 0 absences.

On Resolution 2025-45, the council voted 10-0 to reject the two bids received for the Police Department’s generator replacement. Miss Dawkins, a city staff member who addressed the council on the item, described the bids as including “a more complicated piece of equipment that’s not needed,” and said city staff recommended rejecting the bids and rebidding the work in hopes of attracting more bidders and a lower price.

There was no extended debate on the listed items; council members moved and seconded the motions and the clerk conducted roll-call votes for each. The council did not adopt a vendor for the generator project and directed staff to proceed with a rebid.

The meeting also included ceremonial oath administration before the business items and the mayor’s remarks closing the meeting.
