MERRIMACK COUNTY — The county’s corrections director reported that an initial, independent inspection conducted for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) found the facility largely compliant across security, inmate rights, medical care and food safety, with only minimal corrective actions needed.
Garrett said the inspection was an early, voluntary step to determine whether the facility could safely house ICE detainees. He described the review as the first of several steps and said county staff will need to address remaining corrective actions before any detainees are housed. The inspection found that policies and procedures were generally in order.
Commissioners received the update as information; no formal vote to change housing policy was recorded during the meeting. Garrett said this inspection is an initial step and that additional steps remain before the county would accept ICE detainees.
