The Gardner City Council on May 5 placed on file two communications from the mayor and the city’s auditor: the FY2024 single audit report for federal grant funds and the FY2024 final financial audit report. Councilors said the auditor reported no findings.
Councilor Hegland moved to place items 11527 and 11528 on file; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Councilor Hegland said the auditor had provided a more detailed walkthrough at a recent meeting, focusing on procurement, payables and three selected grants: an airport runway grant, ARPA funds and FEMA funds.
Councilor Brooks summarized the audit material by noting the city received "just over $11,800,000 in federal grants" last fiscal year and provided allocations as he reported them: "about 3 and a half million" for COVID grants, "almost 4,000,000" for airport construction grants, "about 700,000" in general federal grants and "3,700,000" for education-related grants. Councilor Hegland and others thanked department staff for preparing clean audit reports.
The council placed both communications on file; no formal findings or required corrective actions were reported in the meeting discussion.
